Reading Group

July 30, 2020 @ 8:00 pm

We will be continuing our reading group series on Base Building by finishing our discussion of the article, Everyday Ruptures: Putting Basebuilding on a Revolutionary Path by Teresa Kalisz and then discussing Base-Building: Activist Networking or Organizing the Unorganized? by Tim Horras.

The first is a general overview of the left, how we organize, and the different paths to socialism. It ties in well to our ongoing conversations about structure and vision as we figure out where we’re headed. The second article is a criticism of the non-profit and issue based organizing model and a basic introduction to base building. The total length of the readings is about 10 pages.

Optional supplemental readings:
Base-Building and Workers’ Self-Inquiry
Revolution Is Not a Metaphor: A Response to Critics
Is Economic Struggle Enough?—A Critique of “Base Building”
It’s All About That Base. The original reader that kicked off the basebuilding trend.
