Miami DSA’s next General Body Meeting is going to be Sunday, February 9th, from 1-3pm on Zoom only. We’ll be hearing reports from the struggle to organize Li'l Abner mobile home park residents against their eviction and reflecting on the first month of the Trump presidency and what we can expect from the far-right Florida legislature.
February 10, 20257:00 pm - 10:00 pm Golem Games, 2067 NE 163rd St, North Miami Beach, FL 33162, USA
Happy Valentine’s Day season, dear comrades!
In honor of V-Day, we are screening the most controversial romantic comedy ever made: SWEPT AWAY, a Marxist classic by trailblazer director Lina Wertmüller, the first woman ever nominated for the Best Director Oscar.
Gennarino (Giancarlo Giannini) is a misogynistic communist working as a yacht crew member in the Mediterranean Sea. He must serve the wealthy Raffaela (Mariangela Melato), a reactionary feminist constantly insulting his political views. When a day trip leaves the pair accidentally stranded on a desert island, the power dynamics shift: Raffaella, stripped of her social status, slowly submits to Gennarino. The role reversal leads to class revenge and, most unexpectedly, an attraction between the two. Can the ruling class and the proletariat truly love each other?
A Molotov cocktail of a film, SWEPT AWAY is a provocative satire of class warfare and gender dynamics. You will never be the same again after watching it.
